Ship Card (visiting Islands N-100 & N-101)
~ When ssc Island Dancer visits St.Lucia, a visit to Pigeon Island is in order. This island (now connected to the mainland) was used by pirates, notably a Frenchman known to the Spaniards as Pie de Palo (peg leg), as a lookout for likely victims. The island’s harbour was used by the British fleet in the years that St.Lucia, (the “Fair Helen of the West Indies”), was fought over mainly by the French and the English. Now, however, the island is the site of an annual Jazz Festival and also a theatre named after St.Lucian poet, playwright and Nobel Prize winner Derek Walcott. ~
