The sights of the rainforest of Guyana were first written about by Sir Walter

Raleigh, the English explorer, in 1596. Today, jaguars, hoatzin (the national bird) and naked-throated bellbirds still inhabit the rainforest along with greenheart trees, heliconia, orchids, epiphytes and the Victoria Regia lily, which has leaves up to six feet wide. ~ Island Card (visiting Caribbean destination P-108)
